I paint familiar scenes from novel perspectives, a place or a feeling one may have when visiting a place.  I hope to communicate the patterns, and interplay of light on a landscape or the tactile quality of oil paint sliding onto a painted surface.

My favorite subjects are the lights of a sleeping city, dynamic patterns of sunshine on natural or man-made structures, or the curve of the land, raked by sun, or shrouded in mist.  I share the energy of the swoop of the road, the pattern of buildings lined up along the highway , a visual echo of the speed, noise, and rhythm of modern life. My paintings reflect my meditations on the beauty of my surroundings. My paintings are a visual journal.

Past training as a graphic designer and art educator contributed to my understanding of the formal aspects of design and the expressive possibilities of visual images.  The works of Wolf Kahn, Milton Avery, Fairfield Porter, Wayne Thiebald, Edward Hopper, and Richard Diebenkorn have influenced my style.  I paint outdoors or in my studio in the woods next to Frenchtown Brook.
